I am a Christmas person – I love mulled wine, cheeseboards, the acceptability of drinking from 10am all the way through until someone passes out in the cheesecake. It’s great, but as a Christmas person, I have my traditions. Being in a tropical wonderland is not normally one of them.

However, when your godmother is (finally) getting married and invites the family to the Caribbean, it’s hard not to say yes immediately. Despite this, the last few times before I hadn’t travelled with my family and remembered how stressed they all get in an airport environment. An arguing family? Feels more like Christmas already…

Anyway, we landed on the 21st December, the wedding was set to be on the 23rd with us flying back on the 28th. However, when one of my godmother’s daughter’s flight was cancelled emergency measures were needed. Luckily, they were able to move the wedding to Christmas Eve morning, with both daughters there.

So what was supposed to be the the reception dinner became an impromptu goodbye-to-freedom evening, featuring a copious amount of alcohol (even by my standards!). But everyone was there and it was a great evening. After the ceremony and a brunch reception on the beach, it was time for an explore.

We headed into Georgetown for a wander around the shops – there’s no mistaking this town for a cruise terminal – it has all the stereotypical Caribbean tourist traps and eateries, and it is expensive. The Caymans are not for anyone on a budget.

Despite this, we managed to eat, drink and be merry over our festive period including my first Christmas kayaking trip (I really want this to become a tradition, but lakes in the UK in December?!) and snorkelling with stingrays.

So not the most conventional Christmas, but I can definitely deal with rum instead of mulled wine and shrimp instead of cheeseboards for one year…

  1. Wow, amazing blog format! How long have you been blogging for? you make blogging look easy. The total look of your website is excellent, as well as the content!

  2. You actually make it seem really easy with your presentation but I to find this matter to be actually something which I think I’d never understand. It sort of feels too complex and extremely vast for me. I am looking ahead in your next publish, I’ll try to get the cling of it!
